Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about making these air fryer gluten-free apple fritters? Here are the answers to the most common ones to help you perfect this delicious treat!
1. Can I make this recipe without an air fryer?
Yes! You can bake the fritters in the oven or pan-fry them, but the texture might differ slightly.
2. What type of gluten-free flour works best?
A gluten-free all-purpose flour blend that includes xanthan gum or a similar binding agent works best for this recipe.
3. Can I substitute the apples with another fruit?
Yes, pears or diced peaches are great alternatives, but the cooking time may vary slightly.
4. How do I store leftover apple fritters?
Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore their crispiness.
5. Can I make the glaze sugar-free?
Absolutely! You can use a sugar-free powdered sweetener as a substitute for the glaze.
6. What’s the best type of apple to use?
Firm and slightly tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work best for this recipe.
7. Can I make these dairy-free as well?
Yes! Substitute dairy-free milk and butter for the glaze and batter.
8. How long does it take to cook in the air fryer?
The fritters typically take about 8–10 minutes at 375°F, depending on your air fryer model.
9. Why is my batter too sticky?
Gluten-free flours can vary. If your batter is too sticky, add a bit more flour, a tablespoon at a time, until it’s manageable.
10. Can I freeze the fritters?
Yes, freeze them after cooking and cooling. Reheat directly from frozen in the air fryer for a quick treat. Note: I prefer to eat within a day or making them.
11. What should I do if my glaze is too thick or thin?
If too thick, add a few drops of milk to thin it out. If too thin, add more powdered sugar until you reach the desired consistency.
